Nadcap Sealants Task Group to Audit Application of Sealants

21 August 2015

Since 1990, the Nadcap Sealants Task Group, currently chaired by Kent DeFranco of Lockheed Martin Corp., has been maintaining the following two checklists for auditing the manufacturing and repackaging of the sealant product:

  • Sealant Manufacturers (AC7200/1) – on-site inspection of aerospace sealant manufacturers
  • Value-Added Sealant Distributors (AC7202) – on-site inspection of aerospace sealant repackagers

At the June 2015 Nadcap meeting, the Nadcap Sealants Task Group approved a new audit checklist covering the Sealing of Aerospace Assemblies and Components (AC7129). This is a new direction for the Sealant Task Group. The Sealing of Aerospace Assemblies and Components audit checklist addresses the process of applying sealant on aircraft. Historically, air framers would apply sealant to assemblies and components in-house. In more recent years, much of the assembly fabrication is outsourced, including the process of sealant application. The proper application of sealants is critical to component integrity as it provides many benefits, including the prevention of fuel leakage and corrosion protection.

The new checklist is now available at www.eAuditNet.com and auditors are actively being sourced. For further information, please contact Keith Purnell, Staff Engineer, at kpurnell@p-r-i.org
